The benefits of IV therapy include the ability to deliver fluids, medication, and vitamins quickly. "IV" stands for intravenous which means it is administered through the veins. The liquid that contains vitamins and minerals or medication can be delivered via an IV drip or injection into a vein. This allows the treatment to move quickly throughout your blood vessels for various reasons like dehydration or medical emergencies.

In this guide, we'll discuss how IV therapy works and its benefits. We'll go over some simple steps to get started with your treatments at home or in a clinic!

There are several benefits to saline infusions that can help you recover faster when sick or in surgery. Saline is generally used for hydration, providing nutrients needed to heal while avoiding other complications like dehydration and worsening conditions due to lack of nourishment.

How Does IV Therapy Work?

IV therapy is a simple procedure that doesn't take too long. Upon the start of IV, you will be seated somewhere comfortable for your treatment time and have to disinfect the injection site with alcohol wipes before having a needle put directly in the vein either on the arm or elsewhere, but it's okay because nurses are trained professionals who know where to place them.

When the IV is inserted, a nurse will check to ensure that your medication flows at an adequate rate. The fluid enters through the catheter and into your body, where it's absorbed directly into blood vessels. This method typically delivers medicine faster than oral administration can because, during this time, you need to keep still so as not to disturb or dislodge the tube in place inside of you.

Aside from maintaining silence for optimal treatment outcomes, there are many other things you could be doing while undergoing intravenous therapy, such as reading books/watching TV/browsing on the phone if necessary.

What Fluids and Vitamins are in an IV Infusion Bag?

Saline: The saline solution is the base ingredient of an IV fluids bag. The water and sodium chloride serves as a delivery system for other components like dextrose, bicarbonate, and calcium and helps to hydrate your body.

  • Dextrose: Your IV bag might contain a sugar called dextrose, which is good for you. Unlike some of your favorite desserts, this kind of sweetener can be used to help normalize low blood sugar levels and convert them into energy that the body needs from time to time!

  • Lactated Ringer's: Fans of medical dramas may have heard the term, "Lactated Ringer's." This IV solution contains water, calcium chloride, potassium chloride, sodium chloride, and sodium lactate. Like saline solution, it can also be used as a delivery system for other ingredients or to treat dehydration during surgery.

  • Vitamin B: While vitamin B complex can be naturally absorbed and delivered via IV therapy, it is also an essential element of a healthy diet. It directly contributes to critical bodily functions like metabolism and nerve function.

  • Vitamin C: In fact, vitamin C is a necessary ingredient in IV therapy as it helps your body maintain optimal health. If you're feeling under the weather or if cold and flu symptoms are setting in, ask about adding this beneficial vitamin to your treatment during infusions!

  • Calcium: Your IV therapy may include calcium, which is a mineral that we need to stay healthy. It helps build strong bones and teeth. We consume this in our diet through dairy products like cheese or milk and green vegetables such as kale!

  • Magnesium: Magnesium, a mineral that helps combat inflammation and reduce leg cramps in pregnant women, also reduces migraines.

  • Antioxidants: You can receive IV therapy that includes antioxidant foods such as glutathione, or the vitamins A, C, and E. Powerful Antioxidants help protect your body's cells from disease by fighting off free radicals in your system.

The Benefits IV Vitamin Therapy

IV therapy is a great option for anyone who wants to heal quickly and efficiently. Two of the main benefits include:

Weight loss: A weight loss IV drip consists of a special blend of vitamins, minerals, and fat-burning substances that is specifically formulated to increase your metabolism.

Get Refreshed: If you're feeling under the weather, it's probably best not to book a trip to your doctor or hospital. You can get IV therapy in minutes from an experienced medics team without ever leaving home! The price includes their travel and all services provided at your door. It couldn't be easier: they'll find a comfortable spot for treatment and do all the work so you don't have to worry about anything except getting better; we promise that inserting the needle is super quick and painless too.

Improve your health and wellness: IV therapy can help you look and feel better. The infusion of fluids, vitamins, minerals helps support a healthy immune system while promoting skin health and hydration. Vitamins also improve your energy levels!

Common Uses of Intravenous Therapy

So, what is IV therapy used for? Generally, the main types of IV therapy are:

  • Hangover Relief: A hangover doesn't sound like a lot of fun--in fact, it sounds awful. You might think that coffee and acetaminophen are the only ways to find relief from your pounding headache, upset digestive system, dry mouth, and desire to keep shades drawn until you read this article! An IV therapy could be another way for people in pain or even hungover after drinking too much alcohol to get some instant results.

  • Post Workout Recovery: IV therapy is a great way to recover from intense workouts that leave you feeling drained and sore. Fluids help rehydrate your body, vitamins, antioxidants, and amino acids improve energy levels as well as repair any damage done during the workout.

  • Immune System Support: IV therapy can help keep your immune system healthy and strong, especially during cold and flu season. When you're worried about catching a bug, IV support may include several vitamins to boost the immune system naturally so that it's better prepared for fighting off illness more efficiently.

  • Cold and flu relief: If you're getting knocked around by the cold or flu symptoms, IV therapy can help. A drip will keep you hydrated and has vitamins for your immune system to do its job better, as well as anti-inflammatory and nausea medications so that other unpleasantries of common virus-like coughing, body aches are relieved.

  • Pregnancy symptom alleviation: During pregnancy, the body goes through a lot of changes. Morning sickness is just one common symptom that causes an upset stomach and vomiting in pregnant women. Triggered by different environmental factors such as smell, morning sickness can be frustrating when you're trying to focus on your health and the growing baby inside you! While these symptoms typically subside during later stages of pregnancy, they can still disrupt daily life. IV therapy is designed to help pregnant women stay hydrated and reduce the unpleasant effects of morning sickness. This IV therapy includes fluids for hydration, as well as vitamins and medication to help manage nausea and vomiting.

  • Migraine and headache relief: Common triggers of migraines and headaches include stress, diet, environment, and certain medications. We can try to learn our own personal triggers in order to avoid them; however, these conditions still sneak up on us every now and then. When you feel a headache or migraine coming on, turn to IV therapy and let the vitamins and medication help reduce inflammation. If your migraines include nausea, we can provide anti-nausea medicines as well so that you don't have to suffer any longer!

How Long Does IV Therapy Take and How Long Do the Effects Last?

The average IV treatment for us lasts 45 minutes to an hour.

IV therapy drips amino acids, vitamins, minerals, and fluids at a controlled rate. Once you are connected to the IV which is usually a quick process depending on why you're undergoing it, it will take longer but typically requires 45 minutes - 1 hour of your time. Some therapies can be done relatively quickly, while others may require more care and detail, resulting in them taking up more of your time.

What Does It Cost?

Our IV therapy packages range in price, depending on the therapy you choose. Your medical insurance does not usually cover IV therapy. Patients are responsible for the cost of the IV if their insurance does not cover this treatment. At Enhanced Body, our packages start at $100 (Hydration Infusion), but we have other packages targeted for specific symptoms such as a migraine or hangover.

The cost of each of our packages covers the IV drip, the registered nurse, and our travel (If applicable). You can also opt to customize an IV therapy for your specific symptoms. When you decide to customize your therapy, each vitamin and nutrient ranges in costs from $25 to $50. We also offer discounts for large groups of patients. The price of our IV therapy options is comparable to what a patient would owe for an emergency room visit co-pay.

Some History about IV Therapy

Myers’ Cocktail was first developed by John Myers MD, a physician practicing out of Baltimore. He helped patients by giving them a 10mL injection that contained a blend of vitamins and essential nutrients. Depending on the kind of medical problem, patients received the injection once or twice a week, or once a month. Here are the principle components which are proven to be safe.

  • Magnesium

  • Calcium

  • Vitamin C

  • Vitamins B and B Complex (B5, B6, B12)
